PARENTING IN THE DIGITAL AGE
In a Smart Nation like Singapore, technology is pervasive and here to stay. Young children are growing up in a more connected and technologically-advanced environment, with screens being interwoven in every aspect of their lives. While digital devices can no doubt be a great form of entertainment and education, the excessive and unregulated usage of screen time were found to be associated with various negative health concerns impacting the young children’s development.

Play Beyond The Screen is a health communications campaign helmed by four final-year undergraduates from the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information in Nanyang Technological University (NTU). Together with the help of medical professionals and community partners from the various sectors, Play Beyond The Screen aims to encourage parents with children aged 1-5 to actively mediate in their children’s screen time usage and employ alternative measures to educate and entertain them, all in a bid to combat the negative health impacts of excessive screen time on young children’s development.
